Year 2 Long Term Plan

Autumn

Muck, Mess and Mixtures

In this Science based topic, children will learn about amazing materials and colour. This topic develops children’s knowledge of how to mix colours and apply materials to create unique pieces of art. Time to get messy!

Land Ahoy!

In this History based topic, children will develop knowledge of the sea, seafaring and pirates. Children use maps, learn about famous pirates and explorers and find out about life at sea. Jump aboard!

Spring

Towers, Tunnels and Turrets

This topic develops children’s knowledge of how to successfully design and build model bridges and buildings. Children develop their skills and knowledge of design, structures and materials.

Wriggle and Crawl

In this Science topic, children will develop their knowledge of living things and their habitats. Children will identify, observe and investigate minibeasts and understand life cycles.

Summer

Street Detectives

In this local History topic, children will learn about their local area. This topic develops children’s knowledge of key landmarks, services and the community, how these have changed over the years and what they, as the younger generation, can do for their local area. Scented Garden

Children explore the sensory world of plants and the environment in this Science and Geography based topic. Children will develop their knowledge of the five senses, how plants grow, and how we can use them in everyday life.
