Maths

 

In maths we are following a scheme called Power Maths.  Every child has their own practice book in which they complete tasks each lesson.  During lessons, children are encouraged to discover and then share their thoughts with their peers about how they would solve a mathematical problem and they are encouraged to reason and explain their mathematical thinking.  In maths, we will be using lost of practical resources to help the children understand concepts and to help them master the different areas of the maths curriculum.

We go to the Holly Lodge Centre in Richmond Park to support our learning about pond habitats.

 

Other key events

We have two visits from the Matrix Theatre - workshops to support our learning about The Great Fire of London and our English topic about Dragon stories.

 

The highlight of our year is the Year 2 sleepover where we all camp out at school for the night!

 

At the end of May, Year 2 have Activity Week where children take part in fun and stimulating activities in the school hall whilst groups are taken out to sit statutory assessments in Reading and Mathematics (SATS).
