This year our Harvest Celebrations will be held on Monday 8 October 2018 where a Harvest Festival assembly for the children will be held by a member of a local church.
Today in Epsom and Ewell, there are families struggling to put food on the table. For people on low incomes, a sudden crisis, such as redundancy or an unexpected bill, can mean going hungry. Every day parents skip meals to feed their children and people are forced to choose between paying the rent and eating. Epsom and Ewell foodbank provides emergency food and support to local people in crisis. Epsom and Ewell foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust’s UKwide foodbank network.
This assembly, in which we give thanks for our food, is also an opportunity to share food with others in our community. As part of our role as good citizens, we want to get involved in a local community project so we are supporting The Epsom and Ewell foodbank. They will be collecting the food on Monday 8 October so we would be very grateful if all food could be brought in to school by the morning of the 8th, ready for them to pick up.
We will also be giving gifts to some of the elderly in the local area who are known to the school.
Should you wish your child to bring in a Harvest gift, the following items have been suggested:
Tinned puddings eg sponge puddings, rice puddings
Sauces ie ketchup
Spreads ie Chocolate or Peanut Butter
Milk- UHT or powdered
Fruit juice (long life carton)
Instant mash potato
Biscuits or snack bars
Could we ask that any foods donated have at least three months ‘best before’ date.
Any donations will be warmly appreciated.
