Year 5 Long Term Plan


Autumn

Road trip USA

In this Geography based topic, children learn about the United States, past and present. Children’s knowledge is developed of Native American culture, map reading, and the physical and human features of key locations in the United States. Time to pack your bags for a trip of a lifetime!

Fallen Fields

The Sun sets on the battlefields of France and a solitary bugle sounds the Last Post. The First World War was a conflict that had a devastating effect on millions of people across the world. In this History topic children will develop knowledge and understanding about 'The war to end all wars'.


Spring

Peasants, Princes and Pestilence            

In this History topic, children will develop their knowledge of 14th century England. Children learn about life in medieval times, including the effects and impact of the Black Death.

Off with her Head!

In this History based topic, children will develop their knowledge of the Tudor dynasty. Children learn about Henry VIII and his marriages, life and legacy. Take a trip to Nonsuch Mansion if you dare!


Summer

Sow, Grow and Farm

This Geography topic teaches children about the features and characteristics of land use in agricultural regions across the world, including a detailed exploration of significant environmental areas. Let’s get planting!

Allotment

In this Geography topic, children will develop their knowledge of plants, agriculture and where food comes from. Children learn about plant reproduction, cooking, nutrition and land use across the world. What will you grow?
